Intended Audience
We are seeking individuals who are retired from full-time careers, have a passion for our area, a thirst for learning, the time required to commit to the entire program and a desire to volunteer in our community. Our participants are accomplished individuals who are looking to leverage their talents in the Greater Williamsburg area. If that sounds like you, then consider applying for the CLS Program. An added advantage is the opportunity to meet and speak with many of the senior level leaders throughout many organizations and lend insight to many of their challenges. Often opportunities are provided for several “behind-the-scenes” with local organizations and their leadership.
CLS runs in even numbered years. Application information, dates and details for the next class can be found in the Apply section.
Participation in CLS Greater Williamsburg is open to persons living and/or working in the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce service area. The CLS program represents a significant time and financial commitment. Class participants need to be able to attend all scheduled events to participate in the program. As we receive more applicants than we can accommodate, those selected into the program need to commit to attend every session. While CLS requires a serious commitment of time and energy, you will have gained a deeper understanding of the community and the areas where you can make a positive impact.
Program Dates
Specific program dates and locations for the next class include:
Orientation Meet-and-Greet in October prior to class year
Meet your classmates and learn more about the CLS program and what you will be experiencing. This is mandatory and you will be rewarded with new friends and a deeper appreciation for the CLS Program and how it works.
Weekly Full-Day Sessions on Tuesdays, January through March in even years
These sessions are packed full of presentations, panel discussions, and interactive activities. They take place on Tuesday of each week from January through March. These "class days" are mandatory but more importantly, extremely enlightening! You'll address topics of community interest and concern in the following subject areas:

Government, Tourism and Economics
Health and Wellness
Environment and Conservation

This is held on the last day of the weekly sessions. Before you walk across the stage, during an informal and interactive session, you'll be able to share your feedback and suggestions for the CLS program with the CLS board.
